Faith and Hope School - How did Skye get involved?

Through a Scottish friend who used to live in Sleat, Rosemary first visited Skye in 2005, and the local connection began.

At that time, a group of local people began fundraising on an ad hoc basis but, in an attempt to make our support more effective and regular, we went on to make ourselves a properly constituted group and achieved charitable status in April 2010.

In the financial year 2010-11 we sent approximately £12,000 which partially paid for a badly needed new building and contributed toward staffing and feeding costs. In the financial year 2011-12 we sent £22,900, and in 2012-2013 we sent £13,170.

This was raised through local fundraising events plus one-off and regular, gift-aided donations, including sponsorship of individual children.

We call ourselves Friends of Hope and Faith School and our current committee members are:

Norman and Jean Gillies have visited the school on 3 occasions - in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

We have regular contact with Rosemary and the children.
